Do a google search on nylon webbing and you will find lots of sources, including some from actual manufacturers. In the "old days" the British Antarctic Survey "doggy men' used lamp wick (http://thefanhitch.org/V10N3/V10,N3Lampwick.html). But I'm not sure that is any easier to obtain and/or prepare than bearded seal is.
